Is there an element of bullshit?
Who would agree that only people who are seen as good looking could ever be described as someone who had 'good fashion sense'.
For example: a very attractive man wears a light yellow T-shirt which is slightly too small for him. With it he reveals his Calvin klein boxer shorts and a pink and baby blue 'aeroplane-seatbelt' belt. With that, he is wearing a pair of lightly faded light-denim jeans which are ripped and drag the floor and have large rips on the knees, thighs, calfs etc. He wears all of this with a pair of flat shoes which are slightly covered by the jeans. His hair is styled ultra-modern and was undoubtedly crafted at a salon. For many, he would be considered to have a sense of style and fashion. He would be looked at as 'unique'. Consider the same outfit on a very unattractive person. Does he still have a good sense of style and fashion? In many ways this is similar to the on-going debates about whether women want nice guys or guys who look good but treat them like shit. Consider the question seriously before jumping into my post with "OMFGOSH HOW STPUID U R CORSE LUCKS HAV NUFFIN 2 DO WIV HIS FASHION STYILE!!!1#1" Just something to discuss.

I would never find any man in the outfit you described attractive, but then I really have never found any 'trendy' man attracttive. I don't fancy someone's clothes, I prefer personality.

and also, i did think about it and i don't really see that much how looks determine how good it looks on them. i've seen not attractive people wearing fashionable clothes and i don't think it hinders the look at all. i am talking face ugly though. if it is a person with bigger thighs and butt wearing skin tight short shorts, then yes it looks bad. though skin tight short shorts look bad anyways.

Ah.
I think a bloke's dress sense complements looks, although if you're ugly, I think it does make blokes more attractive. However, I think it's different for girls. Mainly because so many girls (the majority) seem to try and copy the style of people they see on TV, and the vast majority of times it just doesn't work. They look stupid, IMHO very few girls can properly pull off wearing a short skirt without looking cheap and tacky. I was in town today, and even though it wasn't especially warm, so many lasses were wearing next to nothing, they all think they have the bodies to pull them off, and I constantly cringed. Most girls should keep it simple, nice jeans, nice top, Bob's your uncle. Just because Miss Rent-a-shag from Sex And The Shitty can pull it off, does not mean you can. Blokes clothes are pretty much standard. OK you get different styles and variations, but you tend to see a lot more girls who don't suit their style at all, but blokes (unless they take things to extremes and dress stupidly) generally suit their style, and it usually complements their looks. It's to do with this culture of fashion being a woman's thing for so long, so it means that blokes don't need to do much to be seen as having a unique fashion sense. Whereas every single time a new style comes in for girls, so many of them try and copy it, and more times than not, it makes them less attractive clones ![]()

bri, i think you need to change the record :/ all you do is moan about girls that you think look slutty. i'm not too sure which kind of girls you're talking about but i wear skirts and i don't see how that could class me as a whore. as long as i dont have my tits hanging out at the same time i don't see this as a problem and shouldn't just wear jeans when it's blatantly hot.
and back to the original question, i really love that look you just described capacity. my friend actually pointed out to me the other night that i seem to go for a certain style of a bloke rather than what he actually looks like. which is true to an extent.. i will always double take a trendy guy with mad hair and although he has to have a nice face too etc it definitely makes him more attractive to me. so yes, ugly blokes can still look fashionabe/stylish. |

Personally, I think that men which are attractive can pull off any look, no matter how "weird" that look may.
Take brad pit for example. He use to have this greasy long hair, and a massive father christmas-esque beard, but girld still thought he looked great. Same as becks and his skirts and nail polish. Sumtimes I worry if you ladies are looking for a man or a girl ![]() |

I never really thought of it that way - Think it does help to see a guy wearing, trendy gear to help them stand out rather than the trampy trackie bottoms look you'd find round my area.
Though different styles suit different people so doesn't always necessarily work out that what ever the good looking guy wears, can look just as good on say a less attractive guy. Just like seeing girls wearing their cute short skirts and whatever shoes that are in fashion - doesn't mean it will look good on all girls now, would it?

If a fit guy was wearing what you described, he'd get my attention. If a not-so-fit guy was wearing what you described, the outfit would probably make him appear more attractive. I'm always drawn to blokes with a good fashion sense when walking down town or whatever, and i always look at them a few times.

Don't hijack my thread.
Any guys have a particular style which would be seen as different or individual or unique (I use the term unique loosely). Any girls find any individual styles etc particularly attractive?

that kind of trendy man may be fashionable, but he's not stylish. style is enduring and timeless.
in 10 years you will probably look back at pictures of people like that (and also the girls in neon pointy stilettos), and laugh your arse off. but then i know guys who's wadrobe are just plain shirts, t-shirts and jeans, and they look cool. effortlessy cool. no stupid faddy haircuts, no pretentious labels. just simple clothes put together well and worn with style. that's attractive. and he gives off the vibe that he doesn't care if you run your fingers through his hair, or accidentally spill something on him. imo there's nothing attractive about a guy who has a heart attack every time he gets the slightest mark on his £120, meticulously hand-distressed 'vintage look' jeans.

IMHO, a high percentage of girls who wear certain stypes of clothes do not suit these types of clothes, and they look cheap and nasty. Some look like they'd open their legs to any Joe Bloggs. That's my opinion, you can disagree all you like. Don't know if it applies to you, but we all know that there's far more reason that a lot girls wear short skirts than "it's blatantly hot" or for "comfort". It's because they know blokes will perv on them, they want to be noticed, and they get off on the attention. More often than not, it blatantly doesn't suit them - so it's probably because they like the attention from shallow blokes, or they're whores. Or in many cases, both. To be fair, I've no idea what your body is like, I don't know if you do/don't suit whatever style of clothes you wear, so I've no idea whether you would or would not be classsed in the above category or not - so I'm not classing you as a whore :|

Kaff, the effortlessly cool look which you described - do you think that it could be negatively viewed upon if it was taken up by someone who was actually unattractive, so that it looked more like they couldn't be bothered to make an effort? Or not?

Whereas some good looking people often have an air of...something or other about them, they stand out no matter what they wear. As for styles, if I like something I buy it. I don't conciously have a look, and I don't think "Ohhh, that t-shirt'll go well with these jeans I have", so I suppose I just mix and match and create my own style. Not especially individual, but I wouldn't change it if my mates didn't like it or whatever. And aye - sorry about hi-jacking.
