How many USB things do you use?

My Laptop only has 3 USB 2 ports but got loads more devices then that that need a USB port. I had an old PCMCIA card that gives me 2 more but it's really starting to get a bit messy

I have

2 printers
4 USB Hard Drives
1 External DVD Writer
1 USB Handset for phonecalls
1 External USB soundcard
1 USB Mouse
1 Database cable for my Motorola Phone
1 Transmitter for wireless keyboard
1 USB Card reader for SD Card
1 USB Scanner

That's like 14 things and only 5 ports

Got some USB hubs but they only provide 4 ports at a time .. And I've noticed they slow down the USB hard drives quite a bit.

I wish they'd come up with an all in one power / datacable that provided enough power for things like hard drives and printers - be a lot less wires everywhere.

Although from what I can see of the FireWire spec of having 12volts and 1.5 Amps of power it could well power something like an external DVD Writer and you can daisy chain devices so wires are less messy ..

I have nothing constantly attached to my laptop. I will use my phone, mp3 player and camera USBs at points every so often, but that is it.

USB pen drive. That's about it.

I do have a printer/scanner, but it's linked wirelessly to my computer from upstairs :-) I type "\\COMPUTERNAME" in the run box to access the printer. The router does the rest.

I avoid USB hubs at all cost. The number of phone calls I get from customers with tempermental hubs.. urrgh!!

The PC at home has 8 USB ports, one of them gets transferred to my monitor for easy access.
I just use 4 at most: Printer, scanner, bluetooth and when I connect my flash disk.
Mouse and keyboard are in PS/2 ports.

On the back I've got 4 ports, which have:

a 4 port USB hub which goes to my desktop
the printer
the IR receiver for my computer (though I've never used the remote control...)

into the 4 port hub goes my mouse / keyboard and sometimes webcam (and maybe a memory stick)

at the front I've got two ports and they're used for charging / syncing my phone and memory things. Just cos it's easier to put my phone on top of my computer rather than on the desk (takes up elbow space)

Same; sometimes webcam too.

Used to have a wireless thingy too, but now I have a card which is much safer as I used to fall asleep using the laptop and inevitably the wireless USB thing would get snapped off in various directions and eventually stopped connecting!
