Democrats take Senate and House.

Well, it seems that they have got both Houses, officially they have less Senators but the two independants will vote with them, hell one of them is a socialist!

What do you think the changes will be? I've heard that quite a few of the new Democrats are more closely Republican than old-style democrat.

Erm no it isn't. The President can still excercise his right to dictate foreign policy.

I see massive inquiries into the war, corruption etc etc. Anything that'll make the Bush administration look as bad as possible for the 2008 general election.

Well yes, but he may well have serious trouble getting any money with which to do anything he wants.

Not very often, especially Socialist ones, but then it is Vermont, hardly a powerhouse State.

Is it official? Has that bloke conceded yet?

I only know what I've heard over the last few days on the workings of the US government, but it seems to me that this will make their government more accountable, since there's a credible opposition, and that can only be a good thing. I guess it just depends on whether the democrats use their new-found power to try and fix the problems that the Republicans have failed to, or whether they'll use it to just make Bush appear as incompitent as possible. I guess that comes down to what will win them the 2008 election (not the former, probably).

The two independants are long standing in their community - one was Al Gore's running mate and only stood independantly when he failed to get elected as the democratic candidate.

The democractic socialist, as I understand it, has been a house rep, or at least involved in the area's politics for a long time and was expected to win.

Sorry can't remember their names - but it seems entirely reasonable to link them with the Democracts given their voting records.

Go back to your crack pipe you bumbling fool.

I know one of the independents is Joe Libermann (he ran with John Kerry 2004 as vice president) who has stated he will vote on the side of the democrats so that's an added bonus for them I suppose.

As an aside his brother is a green party Oxfordshire County Councillor

Investigations, election run-up and of course, alot of bi-partisan, "lets sort out Iraq so we can forget about it" politics.

No he didn't. He ran in 2000 with Al Gore. Kerry's running mate in 2004 was John Edwards.

Lieberman lost the primary for the Democrat nomination so he ran as an independent.

I voted for Democrats down the line. It is not that I supported them. For my age I follow these things closely. I hate the Bush administration. they are not conservatives. They are non-conservatives. Their goals are simple. Make the executive branch more powerful then any other. Spread influence around the world that fits their agenda. Expand religion in the government. This administration has run amok. If the democrats do nothing over the next 2 years I will vote against them I hate the place the US is world standing and the future is not looking bright. IT is frustrating.

I knew that already. Thanks for the correction on the other one though.
